ART

When did you really get into art?
I have been drawing my whole life.  I began my mixed media works almost nine years ago.

How did you come to the realization that you should try your luck at art on a more serious level?
The art sort of took over me and I just kept up with the flow. As my technique improved, the quality of the work improved too, I began getting shows and people wanted to own the work.

How did you discover the particular style that you have?
Besides art, I have a fascination with philosophy.  I was looking for a way that I could express my philosophical ideas in a visual medium.  Since my philosophies revolve around the connection between the body and soul, blood seemed to be a prefect medium for this exploration.

How would you describe your style?
Abstract, mixed media, spiritual

What kind of success have you had with your art?
I have been fortunate to have shows, have my work published and maintain my inspiration.

What kind of message, if any, do you try to convey through your art?
I want to move people by the sheer energy of the pieces!! I am also interested in posing life questions such as: What is the soul?  Where do our souls come from?  Are our souls bound to our flesh?  How do our souls interact with other living entities?  Where do our souls go once our physical bodies perish?  My work is less about answering these questions and more about examining all the possibilities and proposing that all living things share a common thread.

Sum up your art in one word.
Explosive energy, inner light, organic patterns reminiscent of tree rings, aerial views of crop circles and bodily orbs: my latest series, "ALIVE," explores the physical and intangible connections between the body-spirit and the Universe. What is the soul? Where do our souls come from? Are our souls bound to our flesh? Where do our souls go once our physical bodies perish?
I began incorporating blood into my work almost nine years ago as a way to explore these questions. Blood, essential to life but most often symbolizing physical death, takes on a new form in a new, regenerative context.  By combining and preserving blood, a primitive artistic medium, with modern, synthetic materials such as acrylics and resin, I celebrate the rebirth process I believe the body-spirit undergoes once life, as we know it, has ended. The resulting works become moments frozen in time, suggesting that our body-spirits exist in a multitude of physical and spiritual forms--continuums that transcend our individual lives only to be reborn as something different, something new, something that is part of who we already were.
