ART

When did you really get into art?
I guess I've always been into art.  My mom is a really good painter and I grew up in a really rural area so I had a lot of time on my hands to create stuff.

How did you come to the realization that you should try your luck at art on a more serious level?
I don't really know.  I think I always though I was going to pursue art...well, except for those younger years when I thought becoming a vet or a librarian or an Olympic skier might be fun.  I went off to get my BFA in visual arts at UBC in Vancouver and that got me even more hooked.

How did you discover the particular style that you have?
Trial and error.  I really love other people's styles.  And for the longest time I tried to mimic them and it always turned out pretty lame.  My mom taught me how to watercolor when I was a kid...so you can still see that loose airy watercolor feeling a lot of the time whatever the medium.

How would you describe your style?
Rock and roses

Who or what influences your art?
So many artists.  I've come across so much cool stuff.  Off the top of my head lately I'm into Aya Takano, Takeshi Murikami,  Chiho Aoshima, (I live in Japan right now), the comic book kissing chaos, Tsang Kin-Wah, fighting design, my friend Bekas art, life, traveling, old stuff, mom

How often do you create a new piece?
I draw every day.  I'm trying to move across the world next month (Japan back to Canada) so I haven't painted much recently.  Actually to get rid of stuff I've been putting little paintings all over the city...as a pleasant surprise for who ever wants them...

What kind of success have you had with your art?
Ummm...I like to do it. That's a kind of success.

What would be the ultimate goal for you and your art?
To be able to create and continue to change and grow till I'm old and brittle.

What do you see as an accomplishment in the way of art?
To get someone to look at it is an accomplishment.  Bonus points if it confuses, moves or interests them.

What kind of message, if any, do you try to convey through your art?
I'm not going to spill that!  Take a look...what do you think?

Sum up your art in one word.
