ART

Phillipe Maxwell the Acid Tongued Gentleman

When did you really get into art?
Hmm, I'd say it happened the summer after 8th grade. I was over my best friend's house and he had a bunch of DBZ posters, so I took one down and tried to draw what I saw.  It wasn't perfect, but it was surprisingly decent. After that I went online and printed out a bunch of DBZ pictures to redraw.

How did you come to the realization that you should try your luck at art on a more serious level?
It's not really a decision, I just kept drawing and trying to get better. I just wanted to be able to draw without looking at anything, and wanted to draw those huge ass muscle bound comic dudes. It's not so serious...justpassion.

How did you discover the particular style that you have?
Everyone has their own style when it comes to drawing. It's much like your handwriting compared to mine. You could write "I love you" on a sheet of paper, and I could do the same; even though they look different to the eye, the meaning is identical.

How would you describe your style?
Goofy. Even my serious pictures look pretty cartoony. In spite of the playful flow of it, they are generally very emotional.

Who or what influences your art?
Sometimes emotion. Other times, I just draw to see if I can satisfy my physical eye, with the vision my mind's eye had. It's very sexy, don't you think?

How often do you create a new piece?
Sometimes I have month-long drawing binges, where I draw silly/graphic comics with gags (jokes) and storylines. Or I'll go a month without drawing anything but a single head on a sheet of paper. I mostly write lyrics...but...I'll never be interviewed for that. Pardon me...*cough*assholes*cough*...okay,  sorry, go on...

What kind of success have you had with your art?
Back in 10th grade I won a few first place ribbons for a graphite (pencil) portrait of an old man.  It's the best picture I've ever drawn. Other than that...NOT A DAMN THING. Aim for less...that's what I always say.

What would be the ultimate goal for you and your art?
Well, I would never consider myself an artist. I just do it for a hobby. I just want to be able to draw better inanimate objects and scenery. It's much harder than it looks.  But, I think I'm going to= put some of my art work on tee-shirts, coffee mugs, hats, shoes, whatever I can draw on. That is my ultimate goal. Remember...aim for less.

What do you see as an accomplishment in the way of art?
Good Question Sethy. Can I call you that?  No? Sorry. Well, this interview for starters, even though 3 people might read this. Other than that, if someone is actually willing to give me cash for my work, then that would be a great accomplishment.

What kind of message, if any, do you try to convey through your art?
The wonderful thing about art is...it's best if it's open for interpretation.  Whatever you get from my pictures, if anything, then that's what is meant to be portrayed.
