Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists
Matt Jamison
Fans of Disturbed rejoice! Yet another consistent album from the genre defying power group hit the shelves last month, proving once again that Disturbed has created a foolproof formula for nu metal success. This album is another polished example of the signature style that rocketed this group to success within the mainstream. And don’t worry kids, those primate-like growls and screams that define the band are still as present as ever.
As usual this Disturbed album includes a great cover song, along with their new original tracks. The great thing about Disturbed choosing to cover songs from other artists is that it opens the way to winning over young fans while allowing the older fans a chance to identify with their music as well. Even better, the boys from Disturbed seem to have the Midas touch when it comes to choosing their cover tracks. Always choosing an unexpected song, yet one that somehow merges with the signature sound that belongs only to this band.
The only caution I offer is this: If you are expecting something new and different from Disturbed just walk away now and save your cash. This disc sounds so similar to the other two albums that it almost feels more like a remix at times. For die-hard fans this is great, for others it could feel a little stale and expected. But why should they decide to deviate from their proven recipe, since it did after all generate amazing success for the group.
The formula is quite simple really. 12-15 tracks per album, two softer tracks per album, one cover song per album, mix and bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. Some bands spend years trying to learn the easiest process to creating radio hits. Disturbed seems to hold the patent.
