X-Men 3: The Last Stand

Anthony Ocean

So all in all X-men was fricken’ cool. In many ways it felt more like an x-men film than the last two. NO, I am not saying its better than the last two, just different.

So before I go on about the film I want to remind everyone out there about the difference between a film and a comic book series that has gone on for more than 40 years. A film is supposed to make you feel and be moved. It has a much shorter time frame than a comic to deliver emotion, action, story, and blah blah blah. So all you whiney bitches out there complaining the deaths and the lack of the Phoenix, SHUT UP. If you really thought they were going to be able to do the entire story of the Phoenix, introduce all the new characters, and with another plot of the cure on a film that was rushed from the beginning, then you’re sharp as a marble.

I am not saying that the film was perfect, it wasn’t. It was rushed. But it was still good. You can blame the studio for it being rushed, not the people working on it.

Characters:
The new mutants were very cool. I liked what they did with them. I wished for more here and there but overall it was good. X dying didn’t bother me because he died in the comic and it was really an impact that he did die. Think about it if nobody died in these comic book movies then it would be the same crap over and over. There wouldn’t be any emotion. But that scene with the phoenix was very epic feeling and just flat out amazing.

The phoenix was incredible. I loved what they did with her. It was just a different approach. Yeah I would have liked to see more form her too, but think about it like this. She was lost, and confused. Yes she wasn’t the all powerful being we see in the comic (a little bit of a shame) but she was just so lost as to what was going on with her. She didn’t know how to be or what to be. I thought it was handled pretty well. Just different. If you can get past the fact that she wasn’t blowing up the universe, I think you’ll like what direction they took with her.

Wolverine. I won’t say much. Wolverine has always been fun and Hugh Jackman is great as wolverine. I think they put too much emphasis on him in all 3 films though. I would have loved to see more with ALL of the mutants. I love wolverine, but it almost seems like we were watching wolverine movies in all 3. He has much more screen time than everyone else. He was always the hero. That doesn’t really bother me though. I can get past that.

I would have liked to see more with angel. Especially since they did a back story on him in the beginning. But it’s ok because I have good news about him for X4, but that comes at the end.

Plot:
So the reason why it felt more like an X-men film. It wasn’t just the deaths, but it was the scale. The bridge scene really gave it a BIGGER world. And just the volume of characters. It was really great to see the x-men taking on all the other baddies. I didn’t need to have a back story on all the characters either. Like juggernaut. He is just a badass and that is all you need to know. The plot was great. I loved how they brought in Leech with the cure. Some say that there was too much story conflict with the phoenix and the cure. Not for me. I thought it was a good balance. People are too attached that these films be a certain way. Well, its not your fucking film. The director and everyone working on the film have a right to make it theirs. Yes they have an obligation to an extent, buts its still their interpretation. Their material. If you don’t like it then get off your fat fucking asses and make your own damn film and shut up. Its the artist material and they can do whatever the fuck they want to. They can have Cyclops dance to Thelma Houston’s “Don’t leave me this way” lubed up in green Jello masturbating. So appreciate it for what it is, a damn good action comic book film.

Special effects:
Not much to say other than incredible. I loved everything that happened. The bridge was nothing short of amazing. The work on the phoenix was just interesting and unique.

So in short the film is great if you can let go of your attachment that it has to be the way YOU envisioned it. Let the artist express their film and just be happy they did it, and did it well.

So the news about X4. A good friend of mines brother is into acting. His agent is Ben fosters (angel) agent. He was recently told by the agent at a conference (or something) that Ben is signed on for X4. That doesn’t mean they’ll make it I know. Because Vinnie Jones (Juggernaut) is signed on for 3 more films. But Ben is signed on as…are you ready? Archangel!!!!!!!!!! And he is definitely in talks about the character. They are just finding out the rest. Director, writer, everything else. But it is moving forward. That means Apocalypse. I can’t friggen’ wait.
