Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Anthony Ocean

I LOVED PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN. Really great and I can’t wait for the third next summer.

Johnny Depp has always been great. He is another actor that can do anything he wants to. He IS, CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow. And in Dead Mans Chest he brings “it” again. Sparrow is funny, selfish, and I never thought at one moment I was watching Johnny Depp. As usual he keeps you fully engaged in his character. Keira Knightley is good. She is beautiful and does an alright job with her character. Orlando Bloom. Well all I have to say is that I haven’t seen him in too much that has blown me away. YES that includes Lord of the Rings. He has always been just ok for me. He did great in Elizabethtown, but in Dead Mans Chest he is a bit flat. Bill Nighy is GREAT as Davy Jones. I knew it was him from the get go only because of his movements. He’s got that jerky spastic movement, and it fully works. The rest of the actors are great too, and overall everyone brings a fresh and funny quality to the film that makes it feel real.

The clothing and set design is as good as it comes. I was blown away in the first and even more so in this. It looks so damn authentic its nuts. SO much detail in every shot. You can tell that everyone involved in the film had a blast. Everything was over the top but in a GOOD way. The art department did such a good job you can tell that everyone really cares about this film.

Special effects are UNBELIEVEABLE. The sound effects on everything especially the Kracken (sorry if I misspelled) were just so fricken’ real. Davy Jones was gross but I couldn’t take my eyes away. I never really go on about special effects and design because it should be seen and not described…so go fricken’ see it.

I found myself really thinking about Indiana Jones in many scenes. I won’t go into the scenes because you’ll know what I mean when you see it. But it was real. On location, real stunt work, little green screen. It’s refreshing to see a director out there with the balls to do everything old school, and whatever can’t be done physically is finished with CG. It once again reminds me of why I LOVE film. THE MORE YOU CAN DO OLD SCHOOL THE MORE FUCKING REAL EVERYTHING LOOKS, DUH. I don’t know why directors these days don’t get this.

Overall it was really amazing and I can’t wait for the third. I already said that, oh well. The last thing I’ll say is that the imagination that this film has is absolutely incredible. It exudes so much laughter, intensity, and flat out great action I will be seeing it again.

So stop reading and go see it now.
