Lady in the Water

Anthony Ocean

So what I want to say to everyone out there about this film is that I can see why those of you don’t like it. I can. This is an intensely spiritual and beautiful film. This film doesn’t have a lot of explanation or reason, so get over it.

Don’t you all remember why we go see films these days? We go to be moved by the unknown, by the fantastical, and by the beautiful. Not everything needs to be explained or given so blatant and obvious. I am sick and tired of formulaic and predictable stories. SICK AND TIRED. That is why I LOVE M. Nights films. He truly is a MASTER story teller. I don’t have to have a film that is full of meaning, but that is why I go to see his films, because they do have SO much “meat” to them. If you don’t want to watch a film like this fine, don’t. I don’t care. But STOP calling M. Night arrogant and self absorbed.

It’s no different than Kevin Smith and his films, yet everyone seems to jump on the band wagon for his dick and fart jokes. Don’t get me wrong I like some of his films, but it pisses me off when people are so hypocritical to one director and not another, just to stay on the wagon for fear of not being liked.

This film is incredibly moving and really deep. Just like his other films. He is truly brilliant. It actually hurts me as an artist that many people out there don’t get his stuff. But like “they” said in The Matrix, those people are “asleep”. It’s true. And it’s not an argument because I don’t like what people have to say about my favorite director. It’s simply that some people don’t want to “wake up”. They are comfortable where they are and don’t want to budge. And NO I don’t think that people are too stupid for his films, they just have to be opened.

This film (to get back on track) is pure beauty and innocence. It is about the love and faith that is in us all. I was completely moved and had a renewed sense of love in the possibility in creative films.

This film had it all. Shots, angles, lighting, story, dialogue and so forth. I am not going to go into my usual writing of what I liked about the film. I just want to keep it simple. I want you all to know that if you’re open to something beautiful, completely imaginative, and basically a “bed time story,” then please support this film. It’s amazing and I am speechless.

Thank you M. Night and I respect you more than any other director because you refuse to compromise who you are. That should be applauded.
