Def Jux is Real Underground

Seth Saltzman

Definitive Jux showed Miami what real underground Hip-Hop is on December 16th, 2005.

While the doors didn’t open until 9pm and the opening acts didn’t hit the stage until 11pm, the show which benefited ‘Toys for Tots’ was a major success.

With Second Hand Outfit impressively starting the show, followed by equally good performances by Bagabons, who’s lead rapper Wreckonize won a few MTV battles a couple of years back, and Seven Star, the show began virtually without a hitch. But, when the man most came to see, Cage, came out for his set, the unexpected noysiness of the crowd caused some unwanted technical problems.

Even with the random, continuous cutting out of the microphone and the other technical problems that plagued Def Jux DJ, Big Wiz, Cage managed to rock the crowd like no other. From ‘Shoot Frank’ to ‘Agent Orange,’ Cage rattled off lyrics to the songs that have made him an indie rap legend.

By the time Aesop Rock went on stage, most of the technical problems had been fixed. Aes Rock kept the hypeness going after Cage by performing his underground hits such as … And songs from his newest EP ‘Fast Cars, Danger, Fire, and Knives’.

Following Aesop, Mr. Lif and El-P, alongside with Company Flow both took the stage, respectively. With DJ Big Wiz still on the tables, they both rocked the house. Performing crowd favorite including “Vital Nerve” and “Patriotism” by El-P and “Elektro” by Mr. Lif, they cemented Definitive Jux’s performance in Miami as both captivating and legendary.
